How to make an outdoor movie or picnic blanket from a $5 bedsheet | Dazzle While Frazzled.comMy husband will occasionally surprise us with a “family gift”. I can usually tell he’s up to something because he’s feverishly researchingI find random product numbers written down on scraps of paper, and he gets all mysterious when asked what he’s up to.

So after weeks of acting all sly, he surprised us with a projector for outdoor movies. (He even went so far as to be Mr. Crafty with a DIY movie screen.) Needless to say, his secretive surprise has brought our family together as we sit under the stars  – mom and dad staying summertime “cool” as we share an ice cold Coke – watching the latest kid-friendly movie.

With summer upon us, backyard movie nights will become part of our family’s summertime routine. Here’s how to make an easy outdoor movie night blanket for the kids…

Step #1:
Lay the bedsheet down on a flat surface. Use your craft or sewing scissors to create slits every 1″ along the bottom of the sheet.

Repeat the same process for the opposite end of the bedsheet.

Step #2:
Form small knots by tying two slits together. Repeat this along each end of the bedsheet.

If desired, add some anti-fray spray to the end of the bedsheet to prevent unraveling.

For me, it’s any excuse to head to my nearest Target store. I set the kids up with their own self-serve refreshments in fun striped plastic glasses on a plastic serving tray. And probably most important, they all had access to their own popcorn in individual popcorn bowls found in Target’s Dollar Deals section.

Meanwhile, mom and dad can sit back and chill in patio chairs with deep seat cushions while they Share an Ice Cold Coke!
