The party hat – the staple of any kids birthday party. So what do you do when you’re throwing a half birthday party? You make half the hat. Yes. Half of a cone-shaped party hat. It may sound a little strange but it’s quite simple.
You just need a round yogurt cup, colorful cardstock and a whole lot of [half] party spirit! Here’s how we added a small touch of festive to this 1/2 celebration!
how to make half birthday party hats
All parties need a hat, especially with such a fun and some might say random theme, like a half birthday party. With the little man in our house turning the impressive number of 4.5, we just had to celebrate this mid-way milestone to the big number 5.0.
Eat Some Yogurt…You Need the Cups
In addition to getting your probiotics, the yogurt cups are used to form the base of the half party hat. Additionally, grab some colorful cardstock, pipe cleaners (or elastic or ribbon), scissors, tape and glue.
Half Step #1: Cut the yogurt cup in half.
Midway Step #2: Trace out a quarter circle shape onto your cardstock.
Partial Step #3: Tape one end of the cardstock circle shape to an end of the yogurt cup. Leave an overhang.Once secured, cut slits in the overhang.
Fragment Step #4: Fold and tape the slits to the inside of the yogurt cup.
Partial Step #5: Once secured, make a small hole through the yogurt cup. Insert the pipe cleaner (or elastic or ribbon) and secure to the inside of the cup.
Section Step #6: Fold in any remaining excess paper and bring towards the other half of the quarter circle. Secure with tape. Decorate the half hat with stripes, polka dots, zig zags – to cover up the tape.
Celebrate a six-month birthday milestone in partial festive style!
