DIY Fence-Mounted Outdoor Chalkboard for Kids

INSIDE: How to easily and quickly build an outdoor chalkboard for kids backyard fun. Backyard chalkboard for fence.

Call me old school but I want my kids outside. Ride bikes. Play in the backyard sandbox. Chase each other around the yard or lay on the grass and count every cloud in the sky. Doesn’t matter to me.

So in my attempt to (lovingly) get the kids out of the house, I went on a “treasure” hunt in our garage. There I found random pieces of scrap plywood and in another corner, some yellow rope. Perfect.

In about an hour’s time, here’s yet another way to get the kids outta the house…

DIY Summertime Fiesta Wreath from Paper Napkins

INSIDE: How to make an easy summertime fiesta wreath made totally from paper napkins and hot glue gun.

If you walked into my pantry right now and looked up to the very top shelf, you’d see two beverage containers stuffed to the ceiling with party crap stuff. Paper plates, plastic cups, streamers…and more paper party napkins than I’ll probably ever use in my lifetime!

If I had a nickel for every cocktail and dinner napkin I own, I’d be able to buy myself something pretty. But I really don’t want to be rich in paper goods!

So when the top shelf of the pantry starts to look like it could quickly become a hazard, you pull out the glue gun and make a wreath. Like this…

How to Decorate a Wagon or Bike for 4th of July Parade

INSIDE: How to decorate a wagon or bike for a neighborhood 4th of July parade.

How to decorate a wagon or bike for 4th of July neighborhood parade | Dazzle While Frazzled.comWe moved into a fun and dynamic neighborhood a couple of years ago. Having lived in something of a “blah” neighborhood for too long, it was super exciting to parade down our main community street decked out in all things Red, White and Blue.

Let’s just say – at that time – our kids weren’t super adept at bike riding. And taking off downhill, with limited skills, was not exactly going to happen regardless of how much they whined and begged.

So mom enthusiastically sold them on taking the wagon to the neighborhood 4th of July parade instead. Womp, womp. Here’s how mom (aka: yours truly) turned our all-terrain sports wagon into something patriotic enough for Uncle Sam himself!

DIY U.S.A. Patriotic Banner from Paper Goodie Bags

INSIDE: How to make a USA patriotic banner from paper goodie bags, cocktail napkins and scrapbook paper.

How do you celebrate the Red, White and Blue? In our pre-kids life, we would lounge around the pool and enjoy any excuse for a patriotic beverage.

But now with three cute “party crashers”, these summer holidays are spent doing something. It’s either heading to a small town 4th of July parade as we drag along snacks and sunscreen, or chasing three kids going in three directions at a local carnival.

Patriotic chaos aside, these summer holidays are always a good excuse to pull anything red, white and blue out of the closet, or to haul out the Stars and Strips decorations.

How to make an outdoor movie or picnic blanket from a $5 bedsheet | Dazzle While Frazzled.comMy husband will occasionally surprise us with a “family gift”. I can usually tell he’s up to something because he’s feverishly researchingI find random product numbers written down on scraps of paper, and he gets all mysterious when asked what he’s up to.

So after weeks of acting all sly, he surprised us with a projector for outdoor movies. (He even went so far as to be Mr. Crafty with a DIY movie screen.) Needless to say, his secretive surprise has brought our family together as we sit under the stars  – mom and dad staying summertime “cool” as we share an ice cold Coke – watching the latest kid-friendly movie.

With summer upon us, backyard movie nights will become part of our family’s summertime routine. Here’s how to make an easy outdoor movie night blanket for the kids…

INSIDE: How to make patriotic red, white and blue stars using paper straws.

DIY Red White and Blue Paper Straw Patriotic Stars for 4th of July Decorations | Dazzle While Frazzled.comHow do you celebrate the summertime Red, White and Blue festivities? When my husband and I were dating, in an attempt, I’m guessing, to win me over, he hosted a CanAm party. “Can” for Canada Day on July 1st (where I grew up) and “Am” for Independance Day on July 4th.

Fast forward 10+ years later, we decide to resurrect our CanAm celebration. Fortunately, both countries share two out of three same colors, which helps on the decorating front. So when I came across a variety of paper straws, in the iconic red, white and blue colors, I snagged them. Not for drinks but for crafting, of course!

Here’s how to use paper straws, pom poms and glue to make some patriotic paper stars…

I’m in Year Two of being a Baseball Mom. Do I understand all the rules? Not really. Have I called it “rounds” instead of “innings”? Guilty. Will I ever comprehend why they wear white pants when sliding in dirt? Never.

But there I sit, clapping and waving back to my 5 year old who seems to spend a great portion of the game chatting and dancing on the field…instead of, you know, paying attention.

And when you ask the Baseball Player (as he refers to himself as) what his favorite part of the game was, he has one quick answer: the snacks.
