INSIDE: How to upcycle an old sweater into a winter wreath with flower rosettes made from an old scarf. Repurpose thrift store clothing.
My poor sweater bit the dust. It was the perfect color to go with everything and the perfect weight for our chilly then suddenly warm Arizona winter weather. I think what did it in was strapping on Child #3 into the baby carrier while towing a protesting Child #2 as we walked Child #1 into kindergarten every morning.
Apparently, that school year was just too much for my awesome sweater to withstand (and probably mom too) and hole after hole, it slowly become unwearable.
But do you think I tossed it? Of course not!! It was re-purposed into a DIY winter wreath. And while at it, I also upcycled an old scarf to create accent flowers. And this is how I did it…

How to Make a Winter Wreath from Old Sweater and Scarf
Supplies:
– Old sweater
– Craft scissors
– Straight pins
– Styrofoam extruded wreath (I used an 16″ wreath form size)
How to Make a Winter Wreath from Old Sweater with Scarf Flowers
Determine which part of the sweater you want to use. Cut 4-6″ wide strips the length of the sweater.
Secure one end of the strip to the inside of the foam wreath with a straight pin.
Wrap it around the wreath. Continue doing this until you cover the entire wreath.
How to Repurpose an Old Sweater into Winter Wreath with Flowers
If the sweater has pockets – as mine did – gather each pocket to mimic the look of a round bow.
Secure with straight pins.
Friendly note: Your sweater doesn’t have pockets. No problem. Cut additional long sweater strips (possibly gluing ends together to make a longer length) and wrap around top of wreath form and tie a bow.
Cut two short strips from any part of the sweater (I used a contrasting section) and pin underneath the bow to make “tails”.
