INSIDE: How to make DIY swim and beach shirts using freezer paper stencils, fabric paints. Free downloadable swim shirt templates.
If my kids are out for the summer then it means that swim team season is upon us. As a swimmer myself, there’s something enjoyable about sitting poolside while watching kids hang off the lane lines, swim zig zags down the pool or come up from a dive with goggles ajar and swim shorts taking on water. Oh, the fun of being a Swim Mom.
Given my role as the carrier of wet bags and swim meet chauffeur, I might as well have a t-shirt that says so! Grab a cute tank and a roll of freezer paper…and (try to) stay dry.

How to Make Cute Freezer Paper Summer Swim Shirts
Have you ever made your own shirt designs? It’s surprisingly easy. And you don’t need to be a graphic design wiz. I am not! I made mine in Microsoft Word.
There are endless tutorials on making your own t-shirt stencils all over the blogosphere and YouTube so I’m not going to bore you with the step-by-step. Enter “making shirts with freezer paper” in your search engine and you’ll be quickly overwhelmed with links.
Supplies:
– Freezer paper
– Basic printer to print out your custom design
– Exacto knife
– Fabric paint (I used Tulip brand) + Brush
How to Make Freezer Paper + Fabric Paints Swim Shirts
This is a very easy project! Here’s how:
#1: Trace the design onto the non-shiny side of freezer paper.
#2: Place the freezer paper onto a hard surface and cut out with an exacto knife.
#3: Position the freezer paper onto a t-shirt and gently iron to secure.
#4: Paint inside the design stencil with fabric paints.
#5: Allow the paint to dry and gently remove the freezer paper stencil.
I made two custom swim shirts. Downloadable FREE templates below!
