INSIDE: How to reupholster a vintage vanity stool. Easy, affordable DIY kids bedroom decorating ideas.
My daughter fell off her bike. Total accident on what was otherwise a relaxing, after dinner bike ride around the neighborhood. Many bandages later, we rallied the team together the next morning, filled their little bellies with some donuts and set off to a vintage market.
Because daddy was on duty during the accident prone bike excursion, he had a lot of guilt. So when he found a little vintage stool that was the perfect height for our daughter’s chair-less desk, he didn’t let his otherwise frugality get in the way of passing up this find.
This is how we brought this antique vanity stool into the modern day with spray paint and some vinyl fabric…

How to Make Cute Desk Chair from Old Vanity Stool
The big ticket item my daughter asked for this past holiday was a desk. Apparently, her best coloring, diary writing and list-making can only occur on a desk in her bedroom. So even though Santa came through, he didn’t bring anything for her to sit on. Fortunately, our morning at the vintage market took her from sitting on a doll case to now sitting in style.

I started the furniture re do project by taking apart the seat of the stool.
With the seat separate, I gave the gold-painted metal a spray of bright teal.
While the paint dried, I removed the original foam and fabric. With those vintage fabrics safely tossed away, I cut a piece of foam to fit the size of the seat.
I cut a circle of fabric, larger than the foam, to easily cover and wrap around the foam.

Staple the fabric around the bottom of the seat, using a staple gun to secure.

I love this updated antique vanity stool, perfect for a little girl who cannot wait to wear makeup someday!
It looks great in her coral and teal bedroom. But most importantly, it makes her the little artist and fiction writer she wants to be!
